What it does
Sort & Renumber reorders the events within every track by Record In, Source In, reel name or existing event number. Optional renumbering assigns consecutive event numbers starting from a chosen positive integer. Timecodes and event comments are retained.
When and why to use it
Record order is convenient for reviewing the edited sequence. Source or reel order can help an operator inspect material by roll rather than by its position in the finished edit. Consecutive numbering also makes a cleaned or merged list easier to reference in notes.
A practical example
After merging two lists with repeated event numbers, sort by Record In and renumber from 1. The resulting event IDs become consecutive while each event keeps its original source and record ranges.
How to use it
- Choose the ordering required for the handoff.
- Enable Renumber events and set the starting number if needed.
- Inspect the reordered result in Side-by-Side, then approve the batch and export the reviewed list.
What to check before a handoff
Sorting changes text order, not record placement. Some recipients expect chronological record order; verify their requirements before sending a source-sorted list. This operation applies to each track in the entire timeline, even when table rows are selected.
