What it does
Source offset shifts Source In and Source Out together. Record ripple shifts Record In and Record Out together. Choose all events, selected events or a reel filter. The signed HH:MM:SS:FF amount is a nominal frame-count duration; DF numbering rules apply when the resulting addresses are formatted.
When and why to use it
Use source offset when the same media has a known timecode displacement, such as a scan whose start address differs from the original transfer. Use record ripple to relocate a defined set of events within a sequence without changing the referenced source ranges.
A practical example
At 29.97 DF, add one frame to 00:00:59;29 and the result is 00:01:00;02. The two skipped labels are not missing pictures. At 59.94 DF the corresponding minute jump is from ;59 to ;04.
How to use it
- Choose Source offset or Record ripple and enter a signed offset.
- Set the event and reel scope explicitly.
- Inspect the live Side-by-Side result, including other pending operations, then approve the batch. Undo restores the preceding approved state.
What to check before a handoff
Record ripple shifts the events in your chosen scope; it does not automatically expand the selection to every later event. An offset of 00:01:00:00 means 1800 frames at a nominal base of 30, not an exact wall-clock minute at 29.97. Negative positions are rejected.
