What it does
Record → Source replaces each targeted Source In/Out with its Record In/Out. Record positions stay unchanged. An optional single reel name can identify the master as the common source for every affected event.
When and why to use it
Use it when an edit list needs to refer to sections of a rendered or flattened master rather than to the original camera clips. It can support shot breakdowns or downstream work against a master with a known, matching timecode start.
A practical example
An original camera shot has Source In 10:02:14:00 and Record In 01:00:12:00. If the exported master begins at 01:00:00:00, the shot’s location within that master is referenced by the record range. Copy that range to source and assign the master reel name.
How to use it
- Check that the master and list use the same frame rate and timecode origin.
- Choose the event scope and, if needed, a single master reel name.
- Inspect the replacement source ranges in the shared Side-by-Side result, then approve the batch.
What to check before a handoff
This operation does not create a flattened master or verify its start timecode. If the master starts at a different address, an additional known offset is needed. The original camera-source references are replaced in the working copy, so retain the original EDL.
